HubSpot added AI spend caps, but the default lets you run 50% over your monthly credits
On 15th Oct'26, HubSpot added spending controls to the credits its AI features and agents draw on. Each account now has a default cap set at up to 50% above its monthly credits, which customers can change, plus limits per feature and action, the option to swap seats for credits mid-contract, and a choice between prepaid credit packs and pay-as-you-go. HubSpot says it will not move customers to a bigger plan automatically when usage grows.
What it actually means
AI credits are easy to spend without anyone owning the bill, because the agents sit inside a tool the team already pays for. A cap is welcome, but a default set half as high again as your allowance is designed to keep your agents running rather than to protect your budget, so the first job is to lower it to a number someone has signed off.
The feature-level limits matter more for anyone building workflows on top of HubSpot. An agent that loops through records or retries a failed action spends credits on every pass, and a per-feature limit stops one badly set workflow from eating the month's allowance for everything else, so start with the agent you trust least.
A default cap 50% above your allowance protects your agents' uptime, not your budget.
