Google's new top model is half price until 30th Nov'26, then the price doubles

Google made Gemini 4 Argon, its most capable model for coding and agent work, generally available on 13th Oct'26 through the paid Gemini API and its enterprise plans. It costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output until 30th Nov'26, the same list price as Claude Sonnet 5.5, and from 1st Dec'26 it rises to $4 and $20, level with Claude Opus 5.5. Independent scores are mixed: Vals AI ranks it first on its index, while Artificial Analysis puts it below both Claude models.
What it actually means
The introductory price is aimed at the teams choosing a model for next year right now, and any trial you run in the next six weeks will be priced at a rate nobody pays from December. If Argon looks like a bargain against Sonnet in your test, check whether it still wins at double the price, because at $4 and $20 it is competing with Opus rather than Sonnet. Count the cost per finished task rather than per token, since these models differ in how much hidden reasoning they burn through and published reports disagree on how Google bills it. With OpenAI retiring GPT-4o in January, plenty of teams will be choosing a replacement in the same weeks this offer runs, so price that decision at December's rate.
Price your Gemini 4 Argon trial at December's rate, because that is the one you will pay.
